Technique Tuesday -- Pooled Watercolor

Welcome back to the Sparkle N Sprinkle Technique Tuesday! I hope you are enjoying these each week. I think you will really like this technique that I am showing you today. It is called Pooled Watercolors.

Supplies:
  1. heavy weight watercolor paper -- 140 lb.
  2. Adirondack reinkers -- Purple Twilight, Cool Peri, Lettuce or any other brand reinkers
  3. water spritzer
  4. water pen or water and paint brush
  5. Starfire glitter G1017
  6. white embossing powder
  7. Roses stamps from My Rose Garden set 402
  8. Versa Mark ink pad 99702
  9. heat tool
  10. Sakura glue pen 99202
Stamp roses onto the watercolor paper using Versa Mark ink. Sprinkle white embossing powder over the stamped images and heat with a heat tool. Spritz water over the roses until it pools and drop a few drops of  the lighter color of reinker onto sprizted rose. Move the color around with the water pen. Keep doing this with each petal of the rose.

When you are finished with the lighter color, drop a few drops of the darker reinker in a few places on the rose to add depth. Then do the same on the leaves, using the green reinker.  Let dry. You will notice that some of the color may bleed out of the embossed lines, but you will be cutting out the rose to layer on a card and this will not matter.

Use a glue pen to dot randomly on the rose. Sprinkle on Starfire glitter. Cut out the rose to use on a card. I hope you enjoy doing this technique. We would love to see you again next Tuesday!

Favorite Things

Hello! It has been absolutely gorgeous here these past two days. I had a fun time making this "springy" card! The challenge at Basic Grey is to use your favorite things on your card. I just love ribbon, pearls, die cuts and flowers, so you see I have used them all! I used Basic Grey paper from the Sweet Threads pack. At Joan's Gardens we are to make a birthday card and use the colors, pink, green and some purple, distress some edges and do some paper piercing !

Technique Tuesday -- Acetate Resist

Welcome back to Technique Tuesday at Sparkle N Sprinkle!  This past weekend Marie and I were in North Carolina stamping with some friends. We tried one of Tim Holtz's techniques that I will call acetate resist.

Supplies:
  1. acetate or plastic from a container
  2. Purple Twilight alcohol ink
  3. ink applicator
  4. Paisley Florals stamp
  5. Jet Black Archival ink pad
  6. paper towel or cloth
  7. spellbinders heart die
  8. white glossy card stock
  9. Xyron machine
Cut a square piece of plastic a little larger than your heart die. I used plastic from one of my spellbinders dies. Put  several dots of Purple Twilight alcohol ink on the ink applicator and pounce all over the plastic and let dry.

Ink up the Paisley Floral stamp with the Jet Black Archival ink and stamp several times on the alcohol inked side of the plastic. Archival black ink is the only ink that will work with this technique. Immediately wipe off the black ink using a paper towel or cloth. You will see clear areas where the black ink once was.

I ran the plastic piece through the Xyron machine to adhere it to glossy card stock.  The glossy card stock helps the images show up better. I then cut out the heart shape using my heart die.

I made another card using the window left by the heart heart shape.

Marie has also made a card using this technique. You can see it here on her blog.
I know you will enjoy this technique as much as we did!

Something New and a Bargain!

I enjoyed making this "springy" card on such a dreary day here! For the Penny Black challenge we were to use something that we found at a bargain and for the Basic Grey challenge we were to use something new. So I used the wooden flower that I recently purchased at a bargain price! My papers are from the Basic Grey -- Sweet Threads pack. I just love this Penny Black hedgehog stamp!

Oldie But Goodie

I hope your day was a good one. It was cold and drizzly here today. But I was cheered up by making this card for three challenges. At Impression Obsession the challenge was to use an older stamp. I chose this pretty stamp called Porch with Flag (E1726). At Joan's Gardens the challenge is to use a window or door and make an outdoor scene, and then I followed the sketch at Top Tip Tuesday. Here is a tip I used on the window of this card. I wanted the whole window the have red behind it, but the right side of the window was showing the striped paper through it. So I carefully traced the window shape on red card stock and cut out the shape and glued it behind the window.

Sparkle N Sprinkle Blog Hop

Hi, welcome to the Sparkle N Sprinkle Deco Divas - Love is in the Air Blog Hop!  I f you hopped here by way of  Dawn's wonderful blog, then you are in the right place! Otherwise, you might want to start from the beginning at the Sparkle N Sprinkle blog, to become eligible for the four great prizes.

Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, I chose stamps from the Heart's & Flowers set 306 and made two Valentines. On my first card I used the Crossed Hearts stamp to make a vintage Valentine card. Over this stamp I used dimensional glue and sprinkled Starfire glitter in it to add shimmer and shine.

On my second card I used the same stamp along with the vases in the set and made a more traditional Valentine card.  I made a lacy layer by using a border punch.

Thank you for visiting and remember to leave a comment to become eligible for a prize. Also leave a comment on each blog and answer the question on the Sparkle N Sprinkle blog to be eligible for ALL the prizes.  Now hop over to Jill's lovely blog to see her wonderful creations!

Just Right Inspiration

Hello Everyone! I enjoyed doing this card challenge for Just Rite tonight. Their challenge is an inspiration challenge. Such pretty colors!  I made the flowers by using the Tim Holtz Tattered Flowers die and coloring them with Twinkling H2Os. The butterfly stamp is from the Just Rite Butterfly Garden set.

Technique Tuesday

Welcome back to the Sparkle N Sprinkle Technique Tuesday! I have another technique that I hope you will enjoy trying this week. I call this Acetate Dazzle.

Supplies:
  • Acetate
  • Jet Black Staz On ink
  • Dimensional glue
  • 3 colors reinkers
  • sponge brush
  • Starfire glitter
Place frame on top of acetate in order to see spacing of images and stamp images onto the acetate using Jet Black Staz On ink.

Turn acetate over and squirt a quarter size amount of dimensional glue on the center of the acetate.  Then add a few drops of each color of the reinkers into the dimensional glue.

Take a sponge brush and spread the glue and reinkers over the whole piece of acetate. Since my reinkers were lighter colors -- I used a pink, light green and light blue -- I added a few more drops of reinkers as I was spreading the glue. After the acetate is covered with the glue and rinkers, then sprinkle Starfire glitter over the whole piece of acetate and let dry.
I hope you enjoyed the technique today. I hope to see you back next week for another fun technique!

Non-traditional Colors Valentine

I hope you have been enjoying your day. It was like March here today with the wind blowing wildly! I am entering this card in Joan's Gardens challenge -- non-traditional colors valentine. I always like a challenge to get me out of a rut, so this was fun! I just had to use the beautiful roses from the Sparkle N Sprinkle set -- My Rose Garden. My sweet friend, Marie, let me borrow the pretty saying that I used on the heart. It added the right touch!

Technique Tueday

Hi, Happy New Year! My name is April and I am a member of the design team at Sparkle N Sprinkle. I love doing techniques. Each Tuesday I will be showing a technique on the Sparkle N Sprinkle blog and I hope you will visit and join the fun here at Technique Tuesday! The technique that I am showing today is called Cracked Ice.

Supplies:
  1. White light weight cardboard.
  2. Versa Mark ink pad.
  3. Super Thick Clear Embossing Powder EP230
  4. Tree die cut.
  5. Blue/green dye based ink pad.
  6. Heat gun.
Cut trees using tree die from the white cardboard. Stamp the Vera Mark stamp pad all over the trees. Pour the heavy clear embossing powder over the inked trees and heat with a heat gun. Do this one more time. Now place the trees in the freezer for 20 minutes.  Take the trees out of the freezer and start bending the trees to crack the embossing powder. Keep bending until you have the desired cracked look. Below is a picture of the tree as it came out of the freezer and after it was cracked.

I then rubbed the blue/green ink into the cracks to add dimension.  I added white Liquid Applique to the branches, then sprinkled Starfire glitter to it and heated with a heat gun.
I hope you enjoyed this technique and that you will have fun trying it out!  I hope to see you again next Tuesday!

You can also see a video of this technique in our Tips & Technique section.

Red and White

I hope you are having a good day. It is warm and sunny here. I made this card for the Red and White challenge at Joan's Gardens and for the Hearts and Flowers challenge at Impression Obsession. For the background of my card I used the Cover-A-Card Roses stamp (CC043) from Impression Obsession.  The hearts are Nellie dies and the swirl is a Provo die. I used Starfire Glitter from Sparkle N Sprinkle on the embossed hearts. Valentine's Day will be here soon. This helped jump start me to get my Valentines ready!

Happy New Year!

I hope all of you had a Happy New Year! We had a "quiet" one here except that loud fireworks were going off until 1pm! I wish each of you many blessings in this new year ahead!
