Technique Tuesday -- Bubble Wrap Brayering

Technique Tuesday is upon us again! I hope your enjoyed your weekend.  This technique is called "bubble wrap brayering" and it goes real well with a new stamp set of wild cats that Sparkle N Sprinkle just released.

Supplies:
  1. brayer
  2. bubble wrap
  3. white, dark and light brown, gold acrylic paints
  4. cream or white cardstock
Start with the darkest brown paint and swipe on the color in an up and down motion on the cardstock using a brush. I used paint that have felt nibs on them. The nibs were a little clogged and I liked the effect because the paint did not come out heavy and left some splotches in places. If using a brush, brush lightly and sparingly.

Add the lighter brown paint and then the gold.

Let dry. It dries quickly, but while it is drying add your bubble wrap to your brayer. You will want to use an old brayer because you will probably get some paint on it.  I used glue dots on each end of the bubble wrap. I stuck one end on and then rolled it until the other end met and then stuck that end on.

Pour some white paint onto a paper plate, roll the brayer lightly through the paint. You may want to roll it lightly on some scrap paper first and then roll it over one side of your painted cardstock. You do not want the white paint to be too thick.

Let dry and then stamp your image on the white area using permanent ink.

Here are some more samples that I did using other paint colors.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you give this a try. Have a good day and a wonderful week!

  3. This looks amazing! I just went to check out the technique, too. What a great idea!
I'm so sorry that I haven't been by for such a long time. I've got so much on my plate right now but am taking a bit of me time to visit my favourite blogs this evening - and that includes yours!
PS I'm not sure if you can do anything about this (i.e., let the designers know) but the reference on the verse is incorrect.

  7. I came across this awesome card on the Sparkle N Sprinkle blog today and loved it. Just wanted you to know that I have CASEd it using other stamps and coloring media (ink rather than paint). I couldnt get the brayering very well, so I just brushed the white acrylic paint onto the bubble wrap and laid it down on the cardstock. That worked well enough for me.
