Technique Tuesday -- Floating Chalks

Technique Tuesday at Sparkle N Sprinkle .

Hi Everyone! I just got back from Stamp Away and I got to meet Barbara, one of our wonderful designers here at Sparkle N Sprinkle! It was fun being able to chat over dinner.  Marie and I had a great time at the show.  It is Technique Tuesday again and I am showing a technique that I did years ago and just fell in love with it all over again! I hope you enjoy this one.  I ended up making many backgrounds with this technique.

Supplies needed:
  1. chalks  ( I used Stampin' Up)
  2. pan for water
  3. pallet knife or other tool to scrape off chalk pieces
  4. white or cream cardstock
  5. matte spray sealer
It does make a difference which chalks you use. At first I tried Craft-T Chalks and they were too fine and fell to the bottom of the pan too fast. I then tried the Stampin" Up chalks and got good results.  First fill a pan with water, then use the pallet knife to scrape off  2-3 colors of chalk. I did this right over the pan of water.

Now take your cardstock and lay it on top the water and chalk. You might want to lightly move the cardstock around. Then lift up the cardstock and let it dry. You will have a beautiful background! The pieces of chalk will sink to the bottom and you can continue to try other colors using the same water.

I had a fun time trying different color combinations. Here are a few.

After your background is dry, seal it with matte sealing spray. The chalks will rub off if you don't. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful week!
