Oldies Technique #3 -- Crayon Resist

Hi Everyone! Welcome back to the Oldies techniques that I will be showing every first and third Thursdays of each month. I want to show you an easy one today called Crayon Resist. I like how it adds a little pizazz to a project.

Here are the supplies you will need:

white glossy card stock
black permanent ink
crayon  (any color)
solid stamp
paper towel
dye based inks
sponge or brayer

Stamp your image on the glossy card stock using permanent black ink.

Take your crayon and color around the edges of the image. This stamp is great for doing this since it already has a border around the edges of the swirls. A lot of people think that you have to use a white crayon, but any color works because it is the wax that resists and then will be wiped off to leave white around the edges. I like using a color so that I can see where I am coloring.

Here is a closer look so you can see some of the pink around the edges.

Now take your sponge and sponge colors randomly over the whole card stock.

Next take the paper towel to wipe off any extra ink and you see the white border around the image.

On this piece I stamped and colored inside the butterfly with my crayon.

You can also highlight areas of the image to look like light is hitting it. I used my crayon on certain areas of this image, using a thin line of color.

I hope you enjoyed the technique today. Come back for another Oldie on March 5th!

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great day!

Thanks for sharing an old favorite. Love this technique and the scroll and butterflies are the perfect stamps to use to show the technique! Gorgeous colors.

I really like how you used the more pastel shades of distress ink in your butterfly card. Really pretty!

This is a wonderful technique, April, we move from one thing to another in stamping, and tend to leave behind some great ways to make beautiful cards and projects. Your card is lovely, the script writing in the background looks fabulous
