Technique Tuesday -- Liquid Pearls and Cling Wrap

Hi Everyone! Welcome back to Technique Tuesday at Sparkle N Sprinkle. I was in Spain the month of July. It was a fun trip. I am back in the saddle again and ready to show some more techniques each Tuesday! Sparkle N Sprinkle is now carrying Liquid Pearls in so many delightful colors. I decided to show a technique using them for this Tuesday. You can click here to see all the fabulous colors.

Supplies needed:

1. cling wrap
2. any color Liquid Pearls -- I used Daffodil
3. any color dye ink to compiment the Liquid Pearls
4. sponge
5. heat tool -- optional
6. white or cream card stock
7. craft sheet

Take the bottle of Liquid Pearls and squeeze some onto the craft sheet.

Wad up a piece of cling wrap and pounce it in the paint, then pounce it all over the card stock. You can either let the paint air dry or heat it a little to speed up the drying time. It dries pretty quickly on its own.

The next step is to take your ink pad -- I used green ink -- and sponge ink all over the card stock until it is covered. Take a tissue and rub off any excess ink. That's it! It makes a neat shimmery background.

Technique Tuesday -- Frilly Flowers

Hi All! It is time again for Technique Tuesday at Sparkle N Sprinkle!  When I saw these flowers I had to know how to make them. They look so real! I hope you will enjoy learning to make these as much as I did.

Supplies needed:

1. white coffee filters
2. Distress stains
3. brads
4. flower dies
5. heat tool

Use about 8 coffee filters and open them up flat. Use a flower die to cut out flowers from the filters. Eight layers went through my cuttlebug just fine. Use different sizes of flower dies using eight layers for each size. Poke a brad in the middle to hold the flower together.

Take the color of stain you want and start pouncing it onto the flower. The stain soaks through  all the layers pretty well. You can turn the flower over on the back side and pounce on some more stain to cover the layers better.  I also took a darker purple and pounced the edges of the flower.  I spritzed the flower some with water to blend the colors.

You can let the flower air dry or step up the drying time by heating it with your heat tool.

Now comes the patience part! LOL! Take each layer and pull it up to the middle of the flower and scrunch it tight. Keep doing this until all layers are scrunched.

I just love how frilly the flower is! As you can see I used 2 different sizes of flowers on my card.  Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful day!

Technique Tuesday -- Stains and Simmer

Wow! It is Technique Tuesday again at Sparkle N Sprinkle! I hope you are having a good day. Today I want to show you a way to make a shimmery background by using several different shimmery products. They say April showers bring May flowers,  so I made a card with flowers. I hope we keep seeing the sun and more pretty flowers this May! The first part of May was a complete washout here!

Supplies needed:

1. 3 colors of Distress Stains
2. several different shimmer paints -- I used Inka Gold paints,  Acrylic Pearl paints and Metallic Distress stains.
3. embossing folder
4. white card stock

Take the stains and randomly rub them over the card stock.

Place the card stock in an embossing folder and run it through an embossing machine.

On this piece I rubbed the silver metallic Distress Stain over the card to give it shimmer. This look gives a silver sheen with muted colors underneath.

Here is another one I did using the Distress Brass stain over top. You can really see in this picture how the stain rests on top with the colors barely showing underneath.

On these two backgrounds I used the Inka Gold paints. They are like a metallic rub, when used with water they make a paint. These blend in more with the stain colors and are very shiny.

On this last one I used acrylic white Pearl Paint. This is the background I used to make my card.

It was fun trying the different shimmery paints on these backgrounds. Each one gave a different look. I hope you will play with this and come up with some wonderful shimmery backgrounds for your cards. Have a wonderful and blessed day!

Technique Tuesday -- Tissue Paper Background

Hi Everyone! I hope you are enjoying your day. As promised I am showing how I made the background for this card that I showed on the Sparkle N Sprinkle blog hop last week.  I always have so much fun with techniques so again I made several different backgrounds. I just can't stop at one! LOL!

Supplies needed:

1. white  or light colored tissue paper
2. Distress stains in complementary colors
3. white card stock
4. Brushable glue
5. water
6. pan for water
7. foam brush
8. glitter  --  I used Goldenrod Velvet glitter

Squeeze some glue onto the card stock, dip the foam brush in water and brush the glue across the card stock.

Wad up the tissue paper, open it up some and lay it down on the glue. Let this dry.

Trim off  edges with scissors.

Start swiping the stains over the tissue paper.

Swipe  some of the raised areas lightly with the diluted glue using the foam brush and add glitter.

This is so easy and fun. Here are some more backgrounds I made. On this first one I went lightly over the stained background with the silver Distress stain to give it a different shimmery look.

Technique Tuesday -- Glitzy Glue

Wow! Technique Tuesday came around fast at Sparkle N Sprinkle! I hope you had a good weekend. I named this technique Glitzy Glue because you use a lot of glue and as you can see it is very glitzy. I loved this technique and ended up making a lot of backgrounds with it.

Supplies needed:

1. Brushable Glue 540
2. water spritzer
3. stipple brush
4. black glossy card stock
5. 3 colors of pigment powder paints
6. glitter ( I used Autumn Medley G1013 )
7. heat tool
8. plastic or metal plate or pan for glue
9. spray sealer

Squeeze about a quarter size puddle of glue onto plate and spritz it with water to make it soupier.

Take the stipple brush and start pouncing the glue all over the glossy black card stock.

Add your first color of pigment powder paint over the glue. I poured it straight from the bottle, tapping gently. Be careful not to pour out a bunch in one spot. You may want to dip a paintbrush into the powder and flick off the powder.

Do this with the other 2 colors of powder paints.

I wanted to add a little more sparkle so I sprinkled on some glitter at the end.

Now this is the tricky part! WARNING! Make sure you heat this piece from the bottom! My friend, Bren, and I found out the hard way. We had powder flying everywhere! LOL! Heat this from the bottom using your heat tool and heat until you see the glue bubble. Then start heating from the top. There will still be some powder flying, but not too much. You can see that the glue gives a neat shimmery texture with the powder paints. Of course the glitter added that special touch! You will definitely have to use a spray sealer to seal your work.

Stained Leaves

Hi and welcome to my blog! A couple of weekends ago I went on a fun stamping retreat where I worked on some challenges on a stamping board. This was one submission where we were supposed to to use the "kissing" stamping technique. You can see the technique on the leaves underneath. Sparkle N Sprinkle Sketch Challenge and Technique Tuesday

Hello! I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and I am wishing you a Happy New Year! First I want to show you a card that I made following the Sparkle N Sprinkle sketch for their challenge this month. I used the Bird & Blossoms digi stamp by Beccy Muir. I love these digi stamps and you can see more by clicking here. The flowers are stamps from the Blossoms 429 set. The saying is from the Just For You set 444. I did a little twist to the sketch by making the strip into a flap to open for the saying. I hope you will join the challenge for a chance to win a stamp set! I can't wait to see what you make!

Now on to the Sparkle N Sprinkle Technique Tuesday!

I hope you are ready for another year of great crafting. I want to show you a technique that I came up with last week that I call stained foil. I wanted a shimmery looking wintry background and this is what I came up with. I hope you like it and will try it out.

Supplies needed:

1. Super Adhesive Sheets
2. foil
3. Distress stains -- white, blue and pink
4. paper towel or tissue to wipe stain
5. white card stock

Peel off one side of the sticky paper and adhere card stock to it. Peel off the other side of the sticky paper and adhere the foil.

Take the white stain and rub it all over the foil piece.  Then take a tissue and rub it lightly over the white stain to spread it out into a thin layer.

I let this dry. It did not take long and then I ran the card through an embossing folder.  I added blue stain for the sky and spread it with a tissue again.

Next I added some more white and smoothed it out and then added some pink. You may want to add some more and pink to get the effect that you want. The white stain seems to help the colored stains to not smear off the foil.
